trained in icheon, kwonjaewoo marries the lines and proportions of traditional white korean pottery, with its history of a thousand years, with an uninhibited approach to colour that brings his work into the present day to great poetic effect. working from a single wheel and producing only in small batches, these rare works use their textures and glazes to suggest snowy mountaintops, or mossy stones, or spring skies, as though they are sijo (a traditional form of korean poetry) in ceramic. kwon says that his wish for his work is to ‘make your life more precious’.
